A judge on Wednesday dismissed the charges leveled against one protester and ordered no jail time for another two protesters before him in court following their arrests at demonstrations last fall in Graham. A case against Maurice Wells Jr. was dismissed because Judge Lunsford Long ruled the state couldn't provide enough proof of the charges against him. Wells was charged with misdemeanor resisting a public officer, misdemeanor injury to personal property and misdemeanor disorderly conduct for an incident that occurred at a protest on Sept. 26, 2020. Deputies with the Alamance County Sheriff's Office testified that a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk and that Wells entered the crosswalk in front of the vehicle as it was beginning to move. At that time, deputies testified that Wells hit the vehicle with a flagpole.
