LANSING — Want to make a quick $10,000? Brittany Pierce had the wherewithal to say 'no thanks' to that improbably generous offer in November. She recognized the red flags: Someone she didn't know was sending her a Facebook message at 4:30 a.m. alerting her to a "financial support program" ostensibly offered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services — a program the messenger said had paid him $9,800. Pierce, herself a state worker, knew it was a scam right away. "They're not going to give away money," she said. "If they were, it wouldn't be coming from a stranger on Facebook. It was quite obvious to me."
