HARPERS FERRY â The West Virginia Department of Highways hosted a virtual public information session Tuesday focusing on three proposed options to improve pedestrian traffic in lower town Harpers Ferry. The area under consideration includes the roadway and sidewalk areas between Hog Alley and Public Way. The initial grant for improvements was sought several years ago under the leadership of then-Mayor Greg Vaughn. Potential improvements were deemed important because of the influx of tourists, especially during prime tourist season, that sees many traversing the roadway as sidewalks in the area are narrow in spots. Tourism has only increased as many travel outlets tout the charm of the small Jefferson County town.
