Oregon’s emergency responders and utilities are preparing for another big wildfire season OregonLive.com 1 hr ago Ted Sickinger, oregonlive.com Oregon fire officials, utilities and emergency responders around the state are preparing for another potentially severe wildfire fire season. A historically dry and warm spring means most of the state is already in or near drought conditions. Fire season started earlier in 2021 and is already more active than normal. And meteorologists are predicting hotter and dryer conditions through September. Bottom line, officials said at a news conference Thursday, the outlook is already looking very challenging. Of course, no one can predict what will actually transpire. Last year’s catastrophic conflagrations over Labor Day weekend – the most destructive disaster in the state’s history - were driven by the confluence of some of the same conditions and a highly unusual east wind event over Labor Day.
