Over 20% of teachers failed qualifying exam, says TRCN

About 11,487 candidates have passed the annual Professional Qualifying Examination of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria conducted nationwide, its Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof Josiah Ajiboye, said on Friday.
According to him, a total of 17,602 candidates sat the examination, while 3,650 teachers failed the exercise.
Ajiboye, who stated these in Abuja while briefing journalists on the achievements recorded by the TRCN, put the number of qualified teachers in Nigeria at about 2.2 million.
He said, “A total of 17,602 candidates took the examination; 11,487, which is 75.9 per cent, passed; while 3,650 candidates, which is 24.1 per cent, failed.”
The examination, which was the second series to be conducted by TRCN for 2020, took place between November 12 and 14.
