The mass vaccination site at the Oconee County Civic Center last Saturday drew 743 people to receive their first COVID-19 shot. “We were really pleased to get that many shots in arms,” Acting Watkinsville Mayor Brian Brodrick said Tuesday. Those vaccinated were asked to return to the civic center in three weeks for their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. The effort was a joint venture by the city of Watkinsville, Oconee County, Athens Masonic District 6 and the University Cancer and Blood Center. Ninety volunteers worked the site, which Brodrick described as "well organized." He said volunteers came from private businesses, local government, churches and other groups.
