Pandemic move to home offices opened new front for cyberthreats

The exodus of office workers to home offices last spring created a confluence of increasing risks for cyberattacks, according to a new report from the major cybersecurity firm Fortinet.
The movement of thousands of corporate laptops and computers to home-office internet connections created a lot of new potential entryways for hackers, said Fortinet executive Derek Manky, just as hackers have been evolving their tactics.

“It introduces a larger attack surface, more complexity, more risk,” said Manky, chief of security insights and global threat alliances at Fortinet’s FortiGuard Labs, “and this is exactly what we’re seeing.”
