BRAINTREE -- A child's first Communion is a special day for any family and a number of parishes are working to make sure financial hardship doesn't stand in the way of it being as special as it can be. A number of parishes of the Archdiocese of Boston accept donated apparel -- lightly-used white dresses and boy's suits -- for families of first communicants who are in need. "We have a lot of families unemployed or struggling, so we want them to have the same thing we'd expect for our children on their first Holy Communion," said Heather Hannaway, director of religious education at St. Mary Parish in Chelmsford.
