I spent last Sunday walking my dog and talking with a friend and colleague about a Paycheck Protection Program loan database on our website that went viral following a Facebook post sending people our way. The problem: The database includes home addresses for some applicants who applied for and received the loans. Hundreds of people have written and called, concerned their privacy is being violated. That could not be further from the truth. The public has a right to know The information on the database is from the Small Business Administration, a federal entity that disbursed the loans. The agency released the data through a Freedom of Information Act request seeking public information that would help us tell stories about how the money was being spent.
