Campus brings parent's tech expertise to area
Forward-thinking Purdue University Fort Wayne leaders already were hard at work by the time a Brookings Institution report published in February showed Indiana doesn't prioritize tech spending.
Peter Dragnev, a mathematics professor; Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Carl Drummond; and Alessandro Selvitella, assistant professor of data science and applied statistics; first made a pitch in August for a possible solution. They sought to expand to Fort Wayne an innovative idea-and-information-sharing hub that's been in place since 2018 at Purdue's flagship campus in West Lafayette.
The university announced this week that PFW and Purdue Polytechnic Institute in Anderson are the first campuses that will see that expansion as part of Indiana Digital Crossroads, an initiative aimed at using data to spark new ideas and partnerships among colleges, students and employers. It's an offshoot of a Purdue “data mine” founded three years ago that's led to research in areas including digital gaming, agriculture, physics and health sciences.
