Reply The first ambulance purchased for the town of Windsor Locks during World War II. (Windsor Locks Historical Society) WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — We once again look back at an image from Windsor Locks history, this time from page 102 of the great photo book Images of America: Windsor Locks, compiled by Leslie Matthews Stansfield in 2003. The photo depicts a 1936 Oldsmobile, which served as the first Windsor Locks ambulance upon its purchase by the Windsor Locks Lions Club in 1944. Purchase price? A mere $1,650. Using an inflation calendar from the U.S. government, that figure from the World War II era is equivalent to $24,700.12 in 2021.
