GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court, after hearing a petition pertaining to corruption in four leading universities of the state, has asked the petitioner first to approach the chancellor of the universities concerned with detailed representations as the court expecting the chancellors to take a decision on those representations. The petitioner, Amguri Naba Nirman Samity, contended in the PIL that an issue of corruption is on in Tezpur University, Assam Agricultural University, Assam, Gauhati University and Dibrugarh University. Out of these, only Tezpur University is a central university. Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi is the chancellor of the state universities. The bench of Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Achintya Malla Bujor Barua, in the order, said, “We do not say anything on the merits of the case but considering that these are all autonomous bodies, in case there is such an allegation, it would be only just and fair if the petitioner first approaches the chancellor of the universities concerned.”
