Video from a police body camera proved crucial during an administrative review of an incident in 2019 in which a Sugarcreek police officer shot and killed a man who had stabbed the officer. Elijah Collins III, of High Point, N.C., stabbed Capt. Brian Dalton twice in the neck with a screwdriver on June 26, 2019. The assault occurred after Dalton cited Collins for damaging property after driving into an area where trucks were prohibited. Video from Dalton's body camera was reviewed both by village council members and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Council concluded that Dalton handled himself correctly in the situation.
