Portland voters to consider $36.2 million budget proposal Monday FacebookTwitterEmail PORTLAND — The proposed budget will now go to referendum, following a sparsely attended town meeting May 10. The town-wide referendum on the $36.2 million proposal will be held from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the middle school cafeteria at 93 High St. May 10 is also the day the state Office of Policy & Management is expected to release data on the first traunch of federal stimulus funds being given the state’s 169 cities and towns. The two issues — the budget and the stimulus funds — do have a connection, First Selectwoman Susan S. Bransfield acknowledged. The town and the Board of Education are both applying for money from the stimulus package to their respective budgets. In doing so, they are holding down the projected tax increase for the coming fiscal year, which begins July 1.
