Possible COVID-19 variant in local long-term care home triggers probe

There are currently COVID-19 outbreaks at both Windsor Regional Hospital campuses in the city.
A COVID-19 variant identified in a local long-term care home has prompted further investigation from the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit seeking to verify the discovery.
The province’s enhanced screening detected the more highly contagious variant inside a local seniors’ facility, but the region’s top doctor on Thursday said the health unit suspects it may be a false positive.
“The one under question is linked with a long-term care home. That’s why we’re investigating it to make sure we get it right,” said Dr. Wajid Ahmed.
