Health unit charges six businesses in weekend COVID-19 enforcement blitz

As restaurants and non-essential businesses in Windsor-Essex enjoyed their first weekend with face-to-face customer interaction since December, the local health unit was working to nab anyone ignoring pandemic rules. 
Tobacco and vaping enforcement officers laid charges against six businesses for violating the Reopening Ontario Act four restaurants for exceeding capacity limits, and two personal service settings for non-compliance with masking requirements.

Under the red zone of the province’s COVID-19 response framework, which Windsor-Essex entered on Feb. 16, restaurants must limit indoor dining to 10 patrons at a time, with a maximum of four people sharing one table. Masks cannot be removed inside salons and barber shops. ....

The medical officer of health for Windsor-Essex doubts local pandemic restrictions will ease further any time soon with COVID-19 cases on the rise once again.
Recent data presented by Dr. Wajid Ahmed on Friday showed a slight increase in the region’s infection rate following a weeks-long downward trend. While he attributed the jump to a large outbreak among Windsor’s homeless population, the numbers indicate COVID-19 cases would otherwise be holding steady at best. ....
