Poudre School District mask mandate planned due to delta variant

Poudre School District will require all students, staff and visitors to wear masks at its schools, regardless of vaccination status.
Superintendent Brian Kingsley sent the announcement to families Wednesday evening, saying the main reason for the change in policy is the delta variant.
Kingsley acknowledged that the mask mandate, which goes into effect Thursday, may anger some people in the community but said the goal is to keep children in schools and prioritize safety.
He said the district looked at PSD-specific, local, state and national data along with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations when making the decision.
“It’s more contagious, it’s spreading and it’s impacting both vaccinated and unvaccinated people,” Kingsley said in the announcement. “The benchmarks set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that we need additional protective measures. And truth be told, even though we’ve done everything in our power to keep our community safe, we need to do more.”
