Pregnant cows have a lucky escape

FIREFIGHTERS and vets worked together to rescue four pregnant cows that became trapped last week.
Fourteen firefighters came to the rescue of the four cows that became stuck in a slurry pit at a farm near Penrith.
As the cows were pregnant, extra care was needed to ensure the safety of the calves.
The firefighters used large animal lifting equipment to rescue the animals from the pit.
Dan Griffiths and Charlotte Pennington, from the Newbiggin Paragon Group practice, were on hand to provide any further assistance in the rescue operation.
Mr Griffiths, a veterinary surgeon, said: “Incidents like this are a known risk with slurry pits, but they don’t happen very often.
