Basil Iwanyk has told just about every sort of cinematic story there is to tell. The crowd-pleasing action of the “John Wick” and “Expandables” franchises, the Oscar-nominated thrills of “Sicario” and “The Town,” the fantastical rebooted “Clash of the Titans” films and the acclaimed blockbuster drama “A Star is Born” are all part of the producer’s rich filmography. In theaters Friday, “Voyagers” is the first work of science fiction from Iwanyk, who grew up in Freehold, Howell and Spring Lake Heights and now lives in Spring Lake. “I love sci-fi,” Iwanyk said. “They’re hard to pull off for a number of reasons, one (being) usually a lot of sci-fi is based on existing IP [intellectual property] and a lot of the great sci-fi IP has been gobbled up already, especially since we’re in the world of streamers where they seem to love big sci-fi books (to adapt into) big sci-fi series or limited series.”
