PLANS have been put forward to extend a special needs school in Kendal. An application has been submitted to South Lakeland District Council for a proposed extension of Sandgate SEN School in Sandylands. This would comprise of new special educational needs classrooms, a multi-purpose hall with associated pupil facilities, teaching facilities and extended works. Sandgate School educates special educational needs children on two separate sites in Kendal, including in Sandylands Road and at Appleby Road on the Queen Katherine School Secondary Academy School site. According to the plans, a feasibility report established that an additional four class bases are required at Sandgate School to meet the immediate need for a further 24 pupils.
