Putin signs into law bill ratifying extension of New START Treaty
MOSCOW. Jan 29 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed into law the bill on the Ratification of the Agreement on the Prolongation of the Treaty between Russia and the United States on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms of April 8, 2010, the Kremlin press service said.
The Russian State Duma passed the bill on January 27, 2021. The Federation Council approved the bill on the same day. It takes effect on the day of its official publication.
"The prolongation of the treaty meets Russia's national interests, makes it possible to maintain transparency and predictability of strategic relations between Russia and the United States, and maintains global strategic stability. It will also have a favorable effect on the international situation and will promote the development of the nuclear disarmament process," the Kremlin press service said in a statement on its website.
