Over 4,800 NIPSCO customers lost their power at mid afternoon. Crews were able to make repairs and the power was restored at around 10:00 p.m.. With so many people without power in the below freezing temperatures, Steuben County Emergency Management set up temporary warming centers at the Angola Wal Mart and Rural King stores and at the Fremont and Metz fire stations. The power outage knocked out traffic lights and caused intersections to be treated as four way stops. Angola Police got so flooded with phone calls, they had to tell residents on social media to stop calling them and 911 asking why the power was out.
