Raccoons blamed for Angola power outage leaving 4,800 without lights


Over 4,800 NIPSCO customers lost their power at mid afternoon.
Crews were able to make repairs and the power was restored at around 10:00 p.m..
With so many people without power in the below freezing temperatures, Steuben County Emergency Management set up temporary warming centers at the Angola Wal Mart and Rural King stores and at the Fremont and Metz fire stations.
The power outage knocked out traffic lights and caused intersections to be treated as four way stops.
Angola Police got so flooded with phone calls, they had to tell residents on social media to stop calling them and 911 asking why the power was out. ....

Chase suspect returned to face Branch County charges

BETHEL TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – An Angola, Indiana man charged in connection with a brief high speed chase in two counties last October was booked into the Branch County Jail last Friday.
40-year-old Russell Toon is facing Branch County charges of third degree fleeing and eluding and a second offense of driving while his license was suspended.
He was arraigned last Friday in Branch County District Court where his bond was set at $25,000.
The pursuit started in Bethel Township and ended south of Lake Pleasant in Steuben County. Toon was wanted on a Branch County fugitive warrant at the time. Police say speeds reached as high as almost 110 miles an hour. ....
