With Friday’s death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru, in an air crash in Kaduna, the race for who succeeds him has begun in earnest.
The appointment of the chief of army staff is the prerogative of the president.
Although there are speculations that the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Maj. Gen. Danjuma Ali-Keffi, had been appointed in acting capacity, military authorities yesterday declined to speak on the matter.
However, a report by an online newspaper, PRNigeria, gathered that Ali-Keffi was not among the most senior officers in the army.
