A Greene County Superior Court judge ordered rap artist Foogiano to spend five years in prison after he pleaded guilty Monday to cutting off his ankle monitor last December in violation of his probation. The monitor was found on a roadside in Barrow County, and Foogiano, whose given name is Kwame Khalil Brown, disappeared until his arrest March 11 in Memphis, Tenn. Brown, 27, who was raised in Greensboro, is a rising hip-hop star — given his musical break by Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane, a prominent figure in hip hop. “He’s very talented and we hope this doesn’t affect his career in the long or short term,” said Norcross attorney Brandon Lewis, who represented Brown at the sentencing in Greene County Superior Court.
