Remains of Iowa native killed in Korean War accounted for and being returned to the state Image of Army Cpl. Eldert J. Beek from the DPAA (KWWL) — Iowa native Eldert Beek, an Army Corporal who was killed during the Korean War, has been accounted for and will be laid to rest in Iowa. Corporal Beek, from Sibley, Iowa, was 20-years-old when he was reportedly killed over 70 years ago in late 1950. His remains were accounted for April 14th, 2020, according to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA). Scientists from DPAA used anthropological analysis including circumstantial evidence. Scientists of the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System used mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) analysis.
