MUNCIE, Ind. — The plan to cancel the upcoming sixth Delaware County Circuit Court is still moving forward through the Indiana General Assembly despite the house version of the bill failing to find a sponsor from the senate. The state legislature last year approved plans for the court, which would begin operations in January 2023. However, legislation proposed during this session would repeal the court's creation. Current plans, unless the court is called off, would have Circuit Court 6 replace the Muncie City Court. Beyond issues with the existing city court not being a court of record, plus transportation issues from the new jail, overwhelming case loads in the other circuit courts have been cited as a major reason for the creation of an additional circuit court.
