County Deputy Director of Planning and Hazard Mitigation Officer Allen Miller said the new plan was approved and adopted by the county commissioners in March, and runs until Feb. 28, 2026. Every five years, all counties across Pennsylvania are required to update their hazard mitigation plans. This requirement is part of the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, which requires all local jurisdictions to have a mitigation plan in place in order to receive certain types of disaster assistance and hazard mitigation funding. The new plan will be reviewed every year, as is a requirement by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA). This is done by county officials reviewing all disasters and mitigation efforts from the previous year, while the municipalities provide progress reports as well.
