Trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt put the pedal to the metal with Armycaptin Hanover in Tuesday’s $8,100 Open Pace at Century Downs, and the gelding never looked back en route to a second consecutive victory in the track’s top class. Leaving from Post 1, Armycaptin Hanover rocketed out and carved out relatively easy, first-half fractions of :28.2 and :58. Icy Blue Scooter came after the leader on the way to the mid-way point, and they battled through a savage third quarter clocked in :26.4. The three-quarter marker flashed up in 1:24.4, and from there Hoerdt’s Armycaptin Hanover kicked home in :28 to win by a head over Icy Blue Scooter in 1:52.4. Third prize went to Tiempo Hanover.
