Article content As more and more people are being vaccinated, there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel. Although the tunnel seems longer in this country than many had hoped, weâre nearing the point where this pandemic might finally be behind us. However, that may be small comfort once we reckon with the long-term economic and social effects, which might be more harmful to many of us than the health scare itself. The pandemic hit quickly, and governments around the world were forced to navigate uncharted territory. There was improvisation, uncertainty and a mess of conflicting measures. Governments had no choice but to open the coffers for citizens and industries that otherwise would fall into financial ruin. Being caught off guard should be a lesson to all elected representatives. Now that we are approaching a pivotal point in this journey, it is incumbent on all levels of government to wake up and be proactive with a post-pandemic economic âexit strategy.â
