Bring you 2 distinct and informative discussions featuring a variety of topics and guests with a unique political viewpoint starting with our very own perception and perspective. Want to say that brings their perceptions investigative journalist ben swan and immigration attorney alan or jr and former cia officer John Kiriakou thank you all 3 for coming in today i want to start with harper woods an agency that would be dedicated to amassing our Mental Health data and then using ai to sift through the data in order to predict which one of us might be dangerously violent in a show of hands here at the table who here totally trust the u. S. Government and their ability to conduct this agency responsibly if it was created this is absolutely ridiculous right at the end of the day ben ill go with you 1st i mean what do you make of this. Well look i think it goes far beyond just even the idea of do you trust them to handle it correctly the very creation of this new agency cannot be trusted because theres nothing that works about this in terms of constitutionality theres no due process involved in this it is literally an agency that would be set up and designed in a way to say were going to figure out who is a threat to our society before they do anything threatening which goes against everything inside of the constitution and then on top of that we want to use the amazon echo the google home the apple watch to listen in on what youre doing to gather data on you and then to determine if you are in fact a threat to yourself or a threat to the greater population it is like 984 on steroids its everything that every kind of warning that weve ever had about whether dystopian governments look like a dystopian age would look like being played out right in front of us everything we knew we didnt like about apple watches and amazon and goes in google homes is all coming to fruition under the guise of the same shit. You have about grown in law immigration attorney would like to see is by the right is this something really with due process its not science so dont hide behind that sort of concept that this is some Scientific Method that the following but in addition to that youre treating the symptoms not the causes so if you really want to Impact Society you would address the issues that make these people go that way not addressing the people out there already impacted so really not addressing the issue at all sort of disc a go to get in saying were going to try to do a different way and the problem with this is the programmers will have the discretion to decide to determine who the people are and thats what really takes it out the Scientific Method and all the sort of make it focus once again on people of color poor individuals and low impact societies you know john theres a volunteer but theres somebody whos been on the side of the whistle blow over you know torture and things of that nature i mean is this something that you feel might start volunteer and then kind of have down the path well if the beta is there and it reminds me of that question well if you have nothing to hide then why arent you with the program that was a question under. 1st in a public place by gerbils and so yeah both alan and ben are exactly correct this is this is the very definition of big brother its the very definition of unconstitutionality. If were going to look at the problem of for example Mass Shootings then thats look at societal problems not look at how to take away the Constitutional Rights of people who have not put in parentheses yet done anything wrong yeah and ready you know plus that idea of Mental Health issues in this country are already a big issue in a lot of people are scared you know its adding another layer of fear for people to come forward and seek help with Mental Health issues of the grip of if theyre worried about suddenly being put on a government list and thats the next thing i want to ask because it isnt just a republican way of kind of avoiding the conversation on gun control or finding it an easy out democratic governor in new york andrew cuomo as proposed surveilling people with Mental Health says he wants to see the creation of a federal Mental Health database that would restrict access to guns for those on i mean should the u. S. Government be making lists and serving citizens just based on Mental Health issues and who decides that at the end of the day ill ask you 1st but. Well no they absolutely should not look there is a judge who just ruled today about this situation with a watch list essentially for Muslim Americans theres 4600 americans on this Government Watch list and it was ruled unconstitutional because of the fact that no one knows how they get on the list in the 1st place nor do they know what the criteria are to get off this list they havent committed a crime theres no indication they were were in the process of committing a crime where they would ever commit a crime thats what the judge said what he looked at it he said this was unconstitutional but its actually being created here tyro is a national its on a watch list every Single Person in the nation automatically goes on to the list youre all on the list everyones going to be surveilled to listen to and again its this idea that you need to be stopped before. Or you can commit a crime it by the way lets be very clear about thats too its a its coming under President Trump because trump falls for a lot of stuff right for whatever reason but this is not at trump idea these are ideas that are being brought to him by other groups that are saying hey heres a way to deal with this issue of Mass Shootings theyve been pushing for this for over 2 years now to create harpa and to begin using this technology in this way so the i think what right now it goes back to what you said at the beginning it is taken advantage of the moment its a lets Institute Even more surveillance and more control over society at again place everyone in the nation on the list or watch them all all the time i want to get to this next topic as well and the in an article for the journal of american medical so should and dr poll spiegel director of center for humana turn health the Johns Hopkins he posed a really interesting question him he sed given the reports of into your main over crowd of them unsanitary conditions including in suppression water and toy lives lack of clean clothing him betting high exposure to psychological stress im poor medical care and many of the d. H. Us process thing in detention facilities how can and should needed medical care for detainees be structured especially given the dual dual loyalty challengers that a merge of positions are employed by say d. H. Ass in charge of the taining immigrants and migrants but they also want to act in the best care of their patients and other words the oh how can a patient come 1st when youre working for a you know an organization or an agency that might not want patient care 1st allen ill ask you was in immigration of turf so i think 1st corstens on of brings these 2 source together why would you sort of watch people when its more cost efficient to help people so instead of saying you know im going to watch you what this money how about i give you some healthcare to sort of help you correct whatever difference as you may hap people have Mental Illnesses are not diseased are disaffected individuals theyre still citizens of this culture and they shouldnt be treated as we start going down the slaved like emigrants or something of that fashion so its very confusing how Watchdog Agency that allows individuals that are detained at at these facilities to not have a program healthcare not have basics open border for women children who are going through different parts of their lives so these are not people who are actually even doing anything criminal or going to be able to watch a larger wall of our society so exactly the problem that we sort of talk about as a professional there is a complex issue and in these restraints of a Government Agency sort of stepping into your professional license and saying you cant get out do these things is constitutionally problematic and professionally problematic. As a whistle blower who blew the whistle you know when youre talking about doctors now trying to help these people in these Detention Centers and these you know where theyre putting music to immigrants you know i magine thats got to be a hard thing to do when faced with you know you put your job 1st or to put these peoples care 1st or the law 1st absolutely right there are going to be dual loyalties even if there shouldnt be you know another thing to these of the Mental Health type is that here in the United States there are more mentally ill people being treated in american prisons than there are in mental hospitals and shame on us as a country for that being the fact we should be spending money on Mental Health Mental Health care reopening mental hospitals or financing and funding Mental Health wings of existing hospitals rather than just putting mentally ill people in prison which is what we do now now in terms of the border youre absolutely right but whats the whats the the answer the answer really is at least now is that we have to rely on physicians to just do the right thing im not sure that we can are they going to rat out immigrants who have some sort of problem maybe in an effort to have them cast out of the country again this is something that that we have to struggle with in the absence of of a law or even a clear policy thats very true but youve got about one minute left what is your take on this you know with this issue of medical doctors you know being able you know being kind of torn in both directions when it comes to these detentions. Sure and i think that these guys are going to great point that ultimately the doctors will have dual loyalty but at the at the end of the day theyre having to deal with people and so youre in this terrible situation thats been created about from about 20 to 30 years worth of us policy in latin america and south america a lot of these folks have been pushed here as a result of that and the problem is that everyone whos looking at this issue right now from the outside is looking at it as a political issue instead of a people issue unfortunately the doctors who are there are being asked to do the same thing to look at as a political issue and not a people issue but the real goal that they should have and i believe many of them do have is to care for people but as john said the policies dont allow that to happen right now its the policies that have to change and that is what we should be focusing on is stopping policies like harpo and actually looking at policies that save these people the border and also keep us less surveilled and not put mental people Mental Health issues on less i want to thank everyone for coming on debate John Kiriakou eleanor jr and ben swamp thank you all 3 for coming on the day all right as we go to break auk watchers dont forget to let us know what you think of a topic to come out of our social media be sure to check out watching our to the podcast which is now available on spotify up with were going everywhere in the podcast coming up the one and only my cohost Tabitha Wallace opens up the gallery of how our efforts to be healthier may actually be killing us you dont want to miss this stay tuned to watch and. Theres an old joke that goes whats the difference between a rat poison and diet coke. Diet coke has better advertising a new study published in the journal of the American Medical Association found that consuming 2 or more artificially sweetened soft drinks per day those people were more likely than those who drank sugar sweetened soft drinks to die from circulatory diseases such as heart attack high Blood Pressure stroke and hypertension the study followed over 450000 people in 10 European Countries for almost 2 decades and they also found that sugar sweetened soft drinks were more likely to cause liver appendix and intestinal diseases. Dietician at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center to gather news that for years people have been drinking artificially sweetened drinks thinking they arent going to have any consequences were garbus of whether using artificial sweeteners or real sugar it appears that there are negative Health Consequences with either one the same also seems to be holding true for the latest health craze plant based burgers which are finding their way to every boards of just about every fast food chain from del taco to white castle but are they a healthier alternative to traditional couse or mean while the facts say they really arent upon comparison the impossible burger has more sodium and added sugar than a regular whopper without much more nutritional value to make up for it however according to your own monitor the market for meat substitutes is expected to hit 2500000000 by 2023 and our desire for healthier alternatives to meet milk and sugar seem to know no bounds even smokers are beginning to see the consequences associated with the healthier version of their favorite device this weekend another person to die in the United States due to long issues related to smoking with pens or even cigarettes the mystery condition that has put hundreds in the hospital this summer presents like pneumonia with doctors struggling to pinpoint the exact cause or how to prevent it so in or is equal to capitalize on the business of health have we agreed to swallow a lot more than we can true. Watchers lets take a moment to hypothesise on the hypocrisy of healthier alternatives and step into the gallery. Joining me today in the gallery is the cohost of r t americas the best christy i am from new york and joining me is r t america correspondent Trinity Chavez thank you for joining me ladies. So how are you good so you know heres this idea of aspartame which i grew up knowing aspartame was bad we used to have warning labels on cans of diet soda when i was a kid that said this has caused tumors in lab rats so if youd obvious to me you know if i dont drink bad its bad for you let me ask you 1st trinity what is it about sugar that has us so desperate that were even addicted to the alternative like fake sugars. Well i think sugar in general everyone you know just loves boost of energy that you initially get from some sort of sugar source including like fruit but a lot of people a lot of merchants a lot of companies lately have been sort of targeting these these different sugar alternatives and many people have been leaning to consuming those products because of the 0 calories that they market especially with soda a lot of people think that diet soda is a more healthier alternative when actually thats not the fact because when youre taking something out youre substituting it for some other chemical and it which is why even here in new york theres been a massive effort especially this year to sort of limit the sugar intake by 16 ounces when it comes to sugary beverages its called the soda ban even launching a p. S. A. Earlier this year saying that saying that soda is actually worse than smoking because at least with smoking you know they advertise its a warning by the Surgeon General and with with sodas pacifically theyre marketed to children theyre being sold in cafeterias theyre being you know sold on the 711. 00 on the corner or Convenience Stores all around the city and so a lot a lot of kids these days theyre not checking the ingredient labels theyre not checking to see ok well let me research this let me see what sort of Health Effects are good with this product in fact theyre saying that soda is instead.
