And hes not any of the others larry i mean it was a moment i think this past weekend when everybody kind of look to their d left they looked around they look here around the table tonight bloomberg you know had his moment he was gone and they said well whos left correct i think i asked a lot of my friends there were participating the democrat primary a question that i think president obama was asking people president clinton people what the heck are you doing what the heck are you thinking i think pete and they may be getting out early and timely was thoughtful i think it was courageous and something that the republicans couldnt bring themselves to do in 26 to narrow down to a one alternative candidate so i think now you have a had all had not ok the conventional wisdom is that the super tuesday map was Bernie Sanders favor. Well and what went wrong when i think a few things went wrong it was in his favor so long as the moderates which inviting the vote larry then it went one on one then. The mathematics changed completely and one thing to remember about super tuesday if youre as old as we are at least you can remember when the state of the Southern States all moved up because back in the eightys they wanted to to to bring the south back to the table and what they ended up bringing to the table are who they ended up bringing to the table with Jesse Jackson because a lot of these 7 state primaries on the democratic side i dominated by older and africanamerican voters so what you saw was biden space and between base of older voters and bernies base of Younger Voters you want to put your money on the older voters and the idea of it is i think my money on the older voters i think a great deal worries about but. I would think you would i dont try to put myself in his head. Or out of it all. In all seriousness i dont try to. Handicap what hes thinking but i will say if you have strategist if you have smart people around him they would obviously much rather i think. Rather gets burning remember this super tuesday it was interesting the mathematics wasnt there wasnt that surprising the biden surge right because all these people to drop tell everyone who was supporting me was already supporting bringing young people generally dont go vote but he has a very impressive ground game get out the vote effort in the primaries you see all these National Polls and it makes me laugh you know ive been talk about this for 20 years Rudy Giuliani was winning by 25 points in the National Polls and never got over 3 percent of the primary and so these are these are local elections are about who who actually gets out to vote choosing will the Democratic Party unite behind by. Most of it will be establishment Democratic Party is you know saying its prayers this morning and you know escaping for sure defeat i think i think the National Party will the trick is going to be how long can bernie keep this weekly match going and how will you bring his folks in at the convention do you expect bloomberg to give money to buy absolutely he will be frightening thing to shore says if he fades away he just got a 0 return on investment for 700000000. 00 whatever thats not what he wants to be remembered for i think he built an incredible media operation an incredible data of data bank hes a hes a data guy and hes bringing a lot of high tech data to the table itll be very important for biden and helpful but you agree completely agree and meanwhile its been polling for bloomberg for 3 months every night theyve got a lot of information theyre very savvy and i think bloomberg is not going to be the problem that the Democratic Party is an Establishment Party will come together the challenge is going to be the a. O. See the challenge is going to be is burning going to come in you know thats the issue lizabeth war and i dont know where shes going to end up but i think shes going to be part of the group but theres one thing that unites most democrats and thats why the young vote they come to rallies but they dont vote i was sharing the story with you i think weve talked about this before in 2000 i think there was about 18 percent turnout in the under 30 vote so they started rock the vote and spent hundreds of millions of dollars and jay z. And celebrity were 19. 18 percent and so so i cant have been doing this i cant speak for young people anymore but i can say theyre not reliable and vote on election. Do you think theres bloomberg support will be made you know if you goes up much money its got a right i do i think we learned the headline for all the people worrying that you could buy an election no you cant run. No doubt the headlines you cant buy and i think thats good news right Bernie Bernie lost a little bit of a scare tactic there but i think his whats important about Mike Bloomberg is his infrastructure he built a world class almost you know ken melman David Organization in about 100. 00 days which is incredible faster than the chinese and i think i say that really if you think that theres beatable oh i think its definitely being about i mean trump should be 20 points up larry you get the strongest economy unemployment numbers if this were anybody other than donald trump he would be sitting like Ronald Reagan was sitting in 984 the fact that hes not tells you that a lot of people may mean green with some of his policies but theres a lot of uncertainty around this man and its going to be a question of can joe biden convince them that hes a safe choice he needs to be safe so joe biden has to be careful that hes not john kerry and. Where you cant just be the safe choice and thats the only thing i might slightly different is that if youre just a safe adult in 2004 all of the experts and i mean everyone in the media george w. Bush had a 29 approval 3 consecutive quarters of negative growth and he had a lot of things i mean you could go on and on and. On the democrat side in the media any adults candidate that sounds rational and sane is going to win well but liberals from massachusetts may be an exception to that rule maybe they dont like what i say senator but i think about it in a very electable candidate he looks like a president he sounds like the president hes been the Vice President for 8 years i will likely support him but he has to be careful because air force one. The incumbent the Founding Fathers built this thing for continuity of government versus right the incumbent always has a little bit of an event big. And so i think its going to be tough. You mentioned john kerry was at c. N. N. All day looking at exit polls. That was the beginning of modeling and so i thought i was just going to say i was sitting on the air and i was looking at an exit poll of fox and i realized there were way too many women in the sample and it was one of those moments where you open your mouth and nothing comes out because youre looking at it oh. That was about this point and if you remember we made this is caution is that i actually had a pool of reporters down in the bottom of the headquarters and i brought them up at night you dont explain to them that there were too many women and not enough to spend it and so i brought them up and then we had a little 20 minute briefing and within one hour you know it was it was just awful to be sitting there and you just saying that the democratic establishment is ganging up on and trying to snuff out his revolution is that fair. You know who is the democratic establishment i think members of congress are not eager to have a revolution right now i think theyre going to hold on to the house i think most people who are on the ticket somewhere are looking to get reelected and get elected in the 1st place and i think there are quite a few democrats up and down the ticket who are nervous about having a socialist on top i dont think thats thats unfair i think thats just a realistic assessment of what the odds look like and different just think about how many words of you diagram that sentence the establishment who is that and where are they. Number 2 going up the revolution by definition you cant snuff out a revolution and then you have this kind of is it fair nothings fair in politics so i think if you look at that sentence it sounds like he probably sees the handwriting on the wall that his support has a ceiling. The whole idea was bringing in this whole wave of new voters and we havent seen that whole wave of new voters coming in and thats no disrespect to burning and in this is been going on larry for. Years its not easy to get people who are not used to voting to vote braga obama has not publicly endorsed anyone although he said he will support and campaign for whoever the party picks what do you think was the obama factor. Oh obama plus joe biden i mean to be by obamas side reminds me of the good old days i think but rock obama can raise money i think the wrath of on the can build crowds but in the end of a day president ial politics its about. The guy or the woman whos in the center of the stage at the top of the ticket thats all that matters and votes arent tangible fungible you get about 100 given away you got about 100000000 people a little wake up after labor day just the kids off at soccer turn on the Television Debates look at 2 people watch for maybe 10 minutes and make a decision right and so i think barack obama the question people thought around words like support and endorse and campaign what really matters is how active they are president obama will support Bernie Sanders but i promise you hell do more events hell fly to more fundraisers hell make more phone calls for joe but. Very popular yours of course yes of course should be you know is a great president ok what does trump tell me about the trump Biden Campaign so whats interesting is trump has fundamentals you know hes the incumbent is the other force one right now if even with all the market fluctuations people for one k. s have grown drastically in the last 4 years the stock markets done well the stock market still up 30 percent even with all the drops so he has in theory all of these tailwinds right but the problem with trump is trump right. He cant get out of his own way even on the coronavirus right he cant he have about 9 messages in one speech so if he would actually said this in the last 30 days against senator secretary clinton if he would just stop talking he would actually do a lot better. She is could bring a lot of drama because she is kind of a cause i celebrity and likes to be so i could tell a lot of drama how about damning with faint praise they have. You the rest of us me as a. V. P. Candidate but weve never been the 1st room do you no harm i mean i think i can say for sure it in general people dont vote for Vice President or president benson would have gotten elected and i lay back and. Candidate to be safe and boring but you dont hear a lot and you dont want to get uppity now my old friend paul begala predicted this week that pence will be dumped and he will be replaced by the former u. You know trump is the show right so why in the name of one ever in pence he has the guy he appears and disappears i cant remember what he looked like here is the again this is hes a solder not like a great character and so on this on this topic theres 2 conversations theres 2 conversations that happen 7 days a week all year round with Political Consultants and that is contested conventions and changing v. P. I dont either that everything happens every consultant feel relevant right but i remember in our own west wing and george w. Bush there were people saying george bush is going to replace dick cheney or for the heart attack inside our own west wing people are saying that i dont i dont see it actually happening its so much easier to stay with the status quo when its not her. Where there is no joking to be had plain politics is not lying well accusing democrats of warning to kill thousands of people is not flying well youve got to go with Straight Talk and you know one minute hes saying theres no pandemic coming the next minute you know getting to know what he was getting a bad boy just play it straight on this one this is not a republican versus democratic issue and the president inability to just say look this 5 years doesnt pick parties ok if you just pull this together and i actually dont do it as a country yeah i actually dont think i would have even had him go to the podium this is a moment where this is this is the most right now where you have all these different scientists and cabinet members and officials that are experts and you put them out there and let them do their job and let them talk about it in the long partisan way is it possible. It is hard to mind believes the Rush Limbaugh theory says the terrifying thing larry is that you can even ask us that question. I mean here we your show we dont know. And and its rather terrifying i have no idea i dont know the mean but i do know they did a time when people need reassurance its just not providing so on this particular moment in a presidency president s every president has his moments right people are scared they want to feel called they want to feel at ease including if that means you have to tell them bad news its about how you tell them about what the implications of the bad news is so i think the all the conspiracy theories i think im not speaking for trump or trying to get it is had by i think the read tweeting of all the i think he knows how to rile up the crazies and i think he knows how to get people worked up and i think i dont know whether what he believes about i will tell you this. It doesnt its not helpful when youre getting conflicting messages coming out from the white house period not helpful is another understand what the debate by drum be like. And well be nasty i think trump will trying to get under bidens skin and biden will do well to stay above it all. And just stick to his points but trump cant resist i mean i think were seeing with the very respect every person around him has got to be telling him to stop tweeting about a virus that is killing people and he cant stop themselves right and he cant stop himself from pit playing politics with it so i think the problem with the trump debate is it will be whatever trump feels like in that particular nanosecond one thing i was surprised about is i expected donald trump to be a disaster in the debates against Hillary Clinton because. Hes generally off message temperamental. Behind but but i understand there are other than a few mean moments he actually wasnt. He wasnt as big of a disaster as i thought it would you tell a vision that hes good and he knows how to carry on you know how to play and lets face it he had hillarys number and he had a certain way of playing off in a very successful way i think the one thing joe biden has going for him and i think its true of most of us whove known him for years joe biden is a really nice guy is not a bad guy hes not a. Vicious guy hes a decent honorable man do you make trouble right now and santa still has your shot to make trump the favorite sure you have to you have to make him the favorite you get a stronger economy you get burning still nipping it you get you know a very powerful incumbent president. Favorite but im not picking up the curtain since you have to be careful whether were asking the handicapping question which is whos the favorite or can he beat those are 2 different questions people conflate all the time i think if youre handicapping with my money if im underwriting the bets im taking the income but every time i think of you asking can donald trump be the answer is this was. A state democratic its a lot more likely to stay democratic today than it was last week. I think a lot of people worry about burning on the top of the ticket and what they could do in terms of buying. But well have 4 more court coattails the bernie would you know republicans keep the senate yes. I think. You said you know i think. I can but ken that i think yeah and they keep it up slowly because remember the senate is kind of the far wall for sanity is where the adults are the perception is where the adults are right and i think you have a lot of independents who like that balance and so yeah i think i think the what do you make of all this chaos i mean the whole ball away government split republicans hating democrats democrats i think its very sad you know i think its extremely sad because anybody puts their head up in this atmosphere gets chopped off. No matter which side youre on take it lightly controversial point of view and somebody you know sending a threat and youre an ignorant slut in this villany or instability of the debate is just unfortunate i think not just for one party or the other but for the country if they can gain that nobody wants to play. And so its one of the reasons the dregs of the professional gene pool go and to run for office right its not the best of the brightest you dont graduate from stanford you dont graduate from places anymore and im going to capitol hill as much as you did in the 850 but well destroy have to debate about. It but they have the commission and the commission on president ial debates and the i think we finally after years of civil war settled in 2 president ial and one Vice President ial and you know if they dont show up with that get all the rallies and you quack quack and you have the and it becomes but when they want to remember weve talked about this larry so many times plato wrote a long time ago that late stage republics deteriorate into democracies and people love to talk about our democracy and we say what democracy that wasnt the intent but i think social media and donald trump have accelerated. Whether you think its good or bad weve gone from this representative republic and now understood was 12 Electoral College right but now were heading into this talk or c.
