We begin this hour with breaking news out of Corpus Christi texas that is where officials are now calling a shooting at a u. S. Navy air base terrorism related earlier this morning shots rang out at the base around 6 15 am local time f. B. I. Officials confirm the suspected gunman is dead but a 2nd person involved in the shooting remains on the loose investigators say the shooting unbolted near the entrance gate and thats when the base went into immediate lockdown Officials Say one navy sailor was shot but he was wearing body armor and the base now secure but its still not clear why the f. B. I. Is labeling this incident terrorism related. And President Trump has confirmed that the u. S. Will pull out of yet another treaty this. Time its something called the open skies treaty so in short its a pact to help reduce the risk of military miscalculations that could ultimately possibly lead to war when nations do recon flyovers now the president says its russia that led him to pull out of the agreement meanwhile a new meeting is set between trumps new arms control negotiator with his russian counterpart this meeting aiming to limit russian and Chinese Nuclear arsenals so joining us now to discuss boom bust cohost and investigative journalist thats one i spent 1st lets start with the specifics of what exactly this treaty covers yeah its actually a pretty old treaty it goes all the way back to 1992 when the law when you were still in diapers i dont know. It goes like a long ways it was actually negotiated by george h. W. Bush and then secretary of state james baker and so what they did is essentially created a treaty was right around the fall of the soviet union the emergence of this new russia and essentially what the treaty does is it allows for fly overs between those 2 countries the United States and russia and it allows countries to fly over russia and russian planes to fly over the United States the problem is is that the trouble ministrations been getting angry saying that the russians will not allow the u. S. To fly over certain cities and so theyre complaining that that has not been happening and so they say theyre going to pull out of the agreement as a result of that so now President Trump also just said this. We have a treaty as the other side doesnt adhere to it in many cases their old treaties older grievers said we pull out also so i think whats going to add that is were going to pull out and theyre going to come back you want to make you feel weve had a very Good Relationship lately with russia as you can see that with respect to oil is whats happening with oil. All right so you were the president there what did russia actually do or fail to do that prompted the president to make this decision and then go on this this little short tirade there. Yes so essentially what the president apparently was angry because in 2017 there was a russian aircraft that actually flew over one of his golf courses in new jersey and appeared early that angered the president also we know that russian planes do fly over the United States at certain times again thats according to this treaty theyre allowed to do so the claim thats being made by some intelligence officials is that by doing that essentially what the russians are doing is theyre putting themselves in a position where they can do mapping of certain facilities and theyd be able to locate certain facilities the problem with that theory is that you can go on to google and you can do the same thing without having to fly a plane over to be much more cost efficient just a math everything through satellite and through google so it doesnt really make sense that thats whats happening it seems like what the real concern is the real frustration is is that there are a number of russian cities that the russians will not allow certain planes to fly over and members of nato are angry because theyre saying they want to be able to fly over those cities and according to those members of nato they want to see what russians are doing in terms of military movements and theyre not being allowed to do so so that is not that is not what the treaty is supposed to allow right the treaties opposed to allow flying over civilian areas not over military areas russians cannot fly planes over you right military air space ok so thats what the complaint is but what trump says hes going to get a better deal now right i mean he always thinks hes going to get a better deal then but i mean has anybody told him and other World Leaders for that matter that there are 16 year olds that have really nice expensive drones that can map whatever they want i mean apart from maybe flying over the pentagon or something they can pretty much a map out the president s golf course that they want you know i was in italy they could set up again with. Satellite technology you dont have to fly a plane over anything you just do it all from space. Now bed President Trump says as you just mentioned that he thinks this will push them to come to the negotiating table but this is the 3rd treaty that the president has pulled out of 1st the Iran Nuclear Deal than the one after treaty so what does this mean for the country as a whole and what does what does it mean for russia. Well its a really good question i mean what does it mean for russia at this point does that mean great harm to the russians probably not theres a great harm to the United States probably not a lot of these treaties now one thing trump says which is true a lot of these treaties are very old treaties and so when youre going back to 1902 the treaty was made at the time that the soviet union had just fallen as they said in russia was a fairly Young Country certainly the russians are going to want to different kind of deal right now based on where they are just as the americans certainly want to different kind of deal also the United States was not engaged in theaters of war around the world in 1902 the way they are today so there is a big difference in terms of just the geo political scape of the world right now and i think the other thing thats important is that as were looking at this it seems like trump does want to jump out of a lot of different treaties right now im not sure exactly what the tactic here is other than to say hes making deals because thats what he fancies himself as this great deal maker maybe thats ultimately what its about is posturing for november to say sure good all the deals ive made over this amount of time short and lastly ben this new meeting between the arms negotiators of russia and the u. S. It 10 days sounds like american unilateral as im trying to only limit russia and chinas nukes as it pertains to the new start accord how are you reading it yeah i think i think thats pretty accurate i mean the reality is is that the start agreement is obviously its a cold war agreement right it was designed essentially to protect the United States and russia or the soviet union at the time for mutual destruction and so now we see that yes hes working on these other deals but as you said where is the deal with pakistan where is the deal with india you know where is the deal with israel and some of these other countries that have Nuclear Weapons and so theres Big Questions about that does is it too russian centric probably so but the idea that were even having these talks about nuclear arms right now its a little remarkable that we seem to continue to find ourselves in these same cycles over and over again and we dont seem to ever advance from that weve been stuck in the cycle now for what 80 years yeah its kind of get stale well leave it right there my prime bents one thank you so much for that update. You know if things. Are while the majority of the u. S. Economy suffers one industry is actually well may thats weapons american arms manufacturers are working full steam ahead and President Trump is making sure that the coronavirus doesnt get in its way argues outfly which has that story as american civilian economic sectors come to a standstill. The war machine keeps turning. In the past couple of months the u. S. Has raised tensions with iran and Venezuela Air strikes in somalia have intensified america has provoked russia by suggesting the deployment of Nuclear Weapons in poland and u. S. Warships have sealed towards china when it comes to china just this week but u. S. Has made matters even worse approving the sale of 18 advanced or paedos to taiwan for 180000000. 00 needless to say china is not happy. With finally burnley opposes the u. S. Arms sale may hywel and she has made. In total the sale of weapons to foreign entities by u. S. Companies stands at around 180000000000. 00 a year and it coronavirus or not the trumpet ministration is making sure that doesnt slow down. With covert 19 lockdowns standing in the way of manufacturing President Trump and its team have made sure to remove that hurdle when it comes to the arms industry especially in terms of foreign sales adding to the governments march list of essential workers which includes Health Care Professionals and Food Producers in april President Trump added Defense Industry personnel employed in foreign arms sales to the list by all accounts this order is also helping weapons makers fuel domestic demand as well and weve spent 1. 00 trillion dollars since ive been here more than that 1. 00 trillion dollars on a military that we now have the Strongest Military weve ever had we have the best equipment the best missiles planes the best of everything according to the Stockholm InternationalPeace Research institute the United States remain the worlds biggest defense bender in 2019 with a budget of 732000000000 representing 38 percent of all military spending in the world although slightly lower in february the pentagon released its 2021 budget request at 705000000000. 00 placing an emphasis on weapons that could be used against Nuclear Powers such as china and russia combining domestic with International Sales the u. S. Arms industry is pushing to nearly a trillion dollars that is not something that the trumpet ministration is willing to stand in the way of even if American Workers are put at risk with covert 900. 00 still raging in the states employees continue to work at military industry factories and offices around the country and with business booming the workforce is expanding. Weapons manufacturer Northrop Grumman is planning on hiring 10000. 00 more workers this year raytheon is bolstering its military wing advertising 2000 new jobs boeing which has laid off thousands of its civilian wing is looking to hire hundreds on the military and Security Side of its business and the worlds biggest arms dealer Lockheed Martin has added 2365 new jobs since the beginning of the coronavirus lock down with the intention of hiring another 4600 people. While some see National Defense as essential to the us many are wondering how manufacturing weapons for foreign entities fits that bill with the willingness to put American Workers at risk or military Industry Assembly lines u. S. Government priorities become even more blurred for r t m alex marla bitch.
