Over the past few weeks, there have been a spate of sexual attacks and violent clashes due to misinformation spread on social media, which included a graphic picture of a body wrapped in polythene circulated with a false claim that she had been killed by tribals in Churachandpur, as well as news that tribal men had attempted to attack a village that proved to be false. Police stated that misinformation was spreading despite appeals that only verified information should be published.
