Migrant agricultural workers are active in many different state industries, from cherries to the Great Lakes Bay Region’s sugar beets, said Dale Freeman, the director of Migrant Affairs at MDHHS. They’re vital to not only harvest operations, but food processing and meatpacking as well, he said. They begin arriving around this time of year in larger numbers to assist asparagus production.
