Saginaw’s iconic ‘beans bunny’ lowered from its perch Updated May 09, 2021; SAGINAW, MI - Crews worked Saturday, May 8, to remove Saginaw’s iconic “beans bunny” sign from the defunct bean elevator it rested atop for decades. The bean elevator has been set for demolition to make way for Saginaw Public Schools’ new comprehensive high school campus, planned for the nearby Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy site. The campus’ new arena-style athletic fieldhouse and football stadium are planned for the current site of the elevator. The school district has pledged to preserve the sign, long a landmark in the city’s skyline, and to work with interested locals on where the neon sign should go next.
