View Comments A dozen years after putting its holiday Red Kettle online, the Salvation Army in metro Detroit is opening an online thrift store. "We’re excited to be finally moving in this direction," Randall Polsley, of the Salvation Army, said Monday, adding it helps the charity fulfill its long-term goals. "This launch is long overdue." The nonprofit's e-commerce website, shopsastores.org, launches June 1. Online resellers such as Poshmark and Thredup reportedly thrived throughout the pandemic as folks cleaned out their closets and thrifters — folks who shop at secondhand stores and consignment shops — reached for their smartphones to shop. Goodwill, another nonprofit that takes in donations and then sorts, prices and resells them through its network of retail shops, has been using online tech to sell old clothes since 1999.
