KNBN NewsCenter1 December 17, 2020 RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Salvation Army received its first gold coin in one of their red kettles, keeping with the tradition of someone anonymously donating gold coins for the last 24 years. Capt. Javier Moreno, Black Hills Area Coordinator with the Salvation Army, says they typically get a gold coin in a Rapid City red kettle as well as one in the Northern Hills area which they have not received yet. The one-ounce gold coin was dropped off Wednesday at the North Lacrosse Walmart, and it is valued at about $1,800. Since the Salvation Army is under their fundraising goal this year, that money will come in handy. The Salvation Army is also in need of more bell ringers, with the last day being Dec. 24.
