Samsung QE65QN95A review: An OLED killer

Much like Manchester City, lockdown-induced mullets and tax rises, LCD TVs are back with a vengeance, baby. OLED may have been the technology to covet when choosing a TV for the past few years, thanks to its inky, deep black tones, wide viewing angles and almost supernatural slimness, but its days as the undisputed telly champ are officially over. Why should you care? With the Olympics, Euros and Wimbledon all on the way again this summer, your best choice of new TV to luxuriate in all that sport could legitimately be a Samsung.
To be specific, it could be the Samsung QE65QN95A: the first major Mini LED TV out of the blocks – branded as a “Neo QLED” set – and a transformative step up for for LCD tech up from its second best status of late. You see, what Mini LED does is replace the hundreds of LED diodes that light the LCD pixels in a television panel with thousands of much, much smaller alternatives. It also replaces the relatively bulky lens that guides the light correctly with a far smaller “micro” lens.
