Morning rain and scattered thunderstorms on Saturday brought significant rain to the Austin area for the first time in weeks. By midafternoon, precipitation totals at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport had reached 1.62 inches. That broke the record for Dec. 19 of 1.24 inches set in 2014, according to KVUE meteorologist Shane Hinton. The Lower Colorado River Authority reported 1.79 inches at Wilbarger Creek near Elgin. West of Austin, accumulations were smaller, mostly under an inch. Power outage maps for Austin Energy and the Pedernales and Bluebonnet electric co-ops indicated a few hundred customers temporarily lost power during the storms. By midafternoon Saturday, skies began clearing, with overnight lows expected to dip to the high 30s. Sunday's forecast calls for sunny and clear weather with highs in the mid-60s. Temperatures are forecast to dip to the 40s and possibly high 30s overnight.
