Sawyer Free Public Library kicks off summer reading program COURTESY OF THE SAWYER FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY The Sawyer Free Public Library announced that its "Summer at the Library" program has officially kicked off. The theme is "Tails and Tales," and it has opportunities to read great books, enjoy unique experiences and win prizes. "Summer is the perfect time for people of all ages to take advantage of the Sawyer Free Library and everything we offer from educational and engaging programming to fun reading challenges," said Library Director Jenny Benedict. "Studies show that during the summer months kids who don’t read experience a 'summer slump’ and those that do, even if it’s just a few books, retain their reading and comprehension skills. This is more important than ever with so many students' school year turned upside down due to the pandemic,” said Benedict. “Summer reading is a great time for kids and adults to read the kinds of books they enjoy most, for the sheer pleasure of it. Our expert staff help learners of all ages to discover authors and topics that bring them the most joy."
