Residents of Pans Lane and Edward Road, in Devizes, have hailed a temporary victory in their fight against a “Erlestoke-like” fence. Homeowners and councillors banded together to oppose plans to put up the offending fence on the outskirts of Devizes School’s playing field at the back of their homes. As a result, a 1.8m fence was proposed to block access to the field. But residents have demanded an explanation with some spending the last few weeks researching the land itself – some of which may belong to residents – and appealing for further consultation. They feared that the fence was a preface to potential development on the land.
