WORTHINGTON ― After a lengthy debate, members of the District 518 Board of Education voted Tuesday evening to allow students to return to school in a hybrid model Jan. 4, following the holiday break. The model will follow the same structure the district was using at the beginning of the school year. At Prairie Elementary and the Area Learning Center, 50% of students will be in school each day, and at the middle school and high school, 25% of students will be in school. The board members differed on their opinions regarding the decision, but they eventually voted 5-2 to approve the return to hybrid learning. Board members Steve Schnieder and Linden Olson were opposed, feeling the move is premature.
