While the U.S. presidential election made headlines across the nation and the world, Worthington and Nobles County had their own campaigns as well this past year.
In the city of Worthington, Chris Kielblock won the right to represent Ward 1 on the Worthington City Council and replace retiring councilman and former mayor Alan Oberloh. Kielblock earned 59.06% of the vote total to defeat Aida Simon, who had 40.47%. ....

WORTHINGTON ― A debate about whether to return to hybrid learning Jan. 4 dominated Tuesday s regular meeting of the Worthington Independent School District 518 Board of Education, and members eventually voted in favor of the decision.
Superintendent John Landgaard explained that the district s incident management team ― which includes health care professionals ― has recommended returning to the hybrid model used at the beginning of the school year, with 50% of students in class at Prairie Elementary and the Area Learning Center at 25% at the middle and high schools. The team also polled district staff and received opinions spanning the gamut of options. ....

WORTHINGTON ― After a lengthy debate, members of the District 518 Board of Education voted Tuesday evening to allow students to return to school in a hybrid model Jan. 4, following the holiday break.
The model will follow the same structure the district was using at the beginning of the school year. At Prairie Elementary and the Area Learning Center, 50% of students will be in school each day, and at the middle school and high school, 25% of students will be in school.
The board members differed on their opinions regarding the decision, but they eventually voted 5-2 to approve the return to hybrid learning. Board members Steve Schnieder and Linden Olson were opposed, feeling the move is premature. ....
