His vehicle was found empty down an embankment near the Chitna village apartments. State Troopers responded to the area and conducted a hasty search. Lutz was not located. The weather during the time Lutz went missing was 20 to 30 degrees below zero. On Monday the 8th Alaska State Troopers suspended their active search for Ian Michael Lutz after a week of exhaustive search efforts including sUAS aerial imaging of the area, the deployment of multiple MATSAR K9 search teams, and the use of the Alaska Department of Public Safety’s HELO3 to conduct an aerial search of the area. If new information or evidence is discovered the Alaska State Troopers will reevaluate the search at that time.
