State Senator Steve Erdman has proposed a ballot issue calling for a consumption tax to replace the state’s broken system of income, property and sales taxes. He says his measure is gaining momentum with lawmakers and with one of the candidates running for Governor. He says he’s been trying to come up with a measure to fix the state’s tax system and two years ago one of his attempts failed. Erdman says the only way to correct the state’s broken tax system is to get rid of property taxes altogether and replace it with the consumption tax.
