LAKESIDE — A woman was shot and injured Sunday evening when sheriff’s deputies exchanged gunfire with her 23-year-old boyfriend on the Barona Indian Reservation. Deputies had gone to the reservation near Lakeside to talk with the woman about a domestic incident when the boyfriend started shooting around 8:20 p.m. According to scanner traffic, the man came out of a building onto a balcony on Capitan Grande Road, east of Wildcat Canyon Road, and started shooting at the deputies, who immediately sought cover behind vehicles. One sergeant and four deputies returned fire. Advertisement The woman was shot during the exchange of gunfire although it was unclear who shot her. She was treated at a local hospital for a non-life-threatening injury and was discharged. No deputies were injured.
