Sheriff: Warren Co. mother arrested after attacking children with knife One child remains hospitalized with cuts to her throat Share Updated: 9:25 AM CST Jan 23, 2021 SOURCE: WAPT One child remains hospitalized with cuts to her throat Share Updated: 9:25 AM CST Jan 23, 2021 A Warren County woman has been arrested and charged after a stabbing incident that involved her three children.Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace tells 16WAPT that on Wednesday night, a child escaped from her home and ran to a nearby relative's house where she reported that her mother had hurt she and her siblings with a knife. She also told the relative her mother had possibly attempted to injure herself.At around 10 p.m., deputies and Vicksburg Fire Department Emergency Services were dispatched to the home in the 1900 block of Heather Place where they found Shana Smith, 36, holding a bloody knife. They also discovered the other two children with blood visible on them. Deputies were able to disarm Smith and remove the children safely from the home. The children, ages 7, 5 and 2, as well as the mother, were all taken to Merit Health River Region. The mother and two of the children were treated for injuries and released. One child remains hospitalized with cuts to her throat, Sheriff Pace said. The child is expected to be OK.When asked if there was a previous history of incidents with the family, Sheriff Pace said there are certain circumstances leading up to the incident that are currently being investigated.Smith is charged with three counts of felony child abuse. She made her initial appearance in court Thursday where she was denied bond by Judge Marcie Southerland. Her case will be referred to the Warren County grand jury.The Child Protective Services Unit of the Mississippi Department of Human Services along with Warren County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
