By WMAY Newsroom Photo: https://www.ilsheriff.org/ The head of the Illinois Sheriffs Association says a push to end qualified immunity for police officers would have a devastating impact on law enforcement. Appearing live on WMAY, Jim Kaitschuk with the sheriffs’ group said the bill as written could leave officers exposed to legal liability just for making a good faith arrest that later ends in acquittal. Supporters of the legislation say that’s not the case, but say it would allow the courts to review situations where police violate a person’s constitutional rights and ensure that there’s some legal recourse in those situations.
