Toney, 24, was on the Magpies’ books between 2015 and 2018 but barely kicked a ball for the club. Having joined from Northampton Town in August 2015 he made two brief substitute appearances in the league. The forward also played twice in the EFL Cup before enjoying a nomadic existence for a few years. He was loaned to Barnsley, Shrewsbury Town, Scunthorpe and Wigan before signing permanent terms with Peterborough United in August 2018. Throughout his brief spells around the country, Toney continued to score goals. But it was with The Posh that he finally showed his prowess in front of goal.
